Assassins Creed: The Movie

Assassins Creed: The Movie

At long last the fans are finally going to receive an Assassins Creed film, thanks Ubisoft it’s only been about 5 years. After watching this epic trailer I can honestly say this could very well be the end to the well known “Video-Game-Movie-Curse,” but of course it’s just a quick speculation.

Take a look for yourself:

The film stars the one and only Michael Fassbender who is well known in the nerd realm for his role as Magneto in films like X-men: First Class, X-men: Days of Future Past, and the new upcoming X-men film, Apocalypse.

This is an important step in the right direction for Ubisoft after having a pretty bad 2015 full of gaming glitches and issues. The film didn’t come as too much of a surprise after the French publisher announced their new motion picture division would be joining their ranks, as mention on Variety.

In an interview with Gamespot, we got to hear what Fassbender thought about the franchise and the film as a whole:

“Michael, video game movie adaptations don’t have the best reputation. What was it about Assassin’s Creed that set it apart and drew you to it, considering it could be seen as risky?

Michael Fassbender: It’s not really risky, considering somebody has got to do it right once. We figured the odds are stacked in our favour [Laughs].

Fassbender later added:

I don’t really play video games so I’m not up to speed with any games out there to be honest. I’d seen the posters and some of the trailers, then when I met the guys from Ubisoft and they started to tell me what the whole game was about, the concept behind it, the two rival factions that have been warring since the beginning of time–Templars, Assassins, the idea of DNA memory–I was like, wow, this is great, this lends itself very well to a cinematic storytelling realm outside of the game stuff.

All in all the movie looks great, I hope the story is compelling and takes a lot of attributes from the video game lore so fans can relate and make those connections. I also think it’s amazing that Ubisoft was able to find a passionate actor like Michael Fassbender who actually believes in the Assassins Creed mythos, and is confident that with their powers combined they will do the franchise justice.
