It has been nearly 5 years since the last GOW game was released by long time developer Epic Games. As of late the franchise is solely owned by Microsoft, a buy-out that has made Gears of War yet another addition to the many official X-Box exclusives.
Dedicated fans of the post apocalyptic game began to grow weary in regards to a continuation of their beloved 3rd person shooter. Microsoft quickly latched on to their enthusiasm for the game and promised to bring it back. The Gears of War franchise has a massive loyal fan base, so much so that Phil Spencer (Head of Xbox and Global Creative and Engineering teams at Microsoft) made this comment shortly after the acquisition in 2014:
“It all comes back to our commitment to Xbox fans. The “Gears of War” franchise has a very strong, passionate and valued fan base on Xbox. Over twenty-two million units have been sold across all “Gears of War” titles worldwide, grossing over $1B dollars (US). This franchise, and these fans, are part of the soul of Xbox.”
These powerful words resonated well with the masses that love Gears and also ensured the fans that the fight against the Locust was not over just yet. On their word, two years later Gears of War 4 was properly revealed during the 2016 Electronic Games conference.
Thus, gamers who have made their mark in the game will be rewarded for their commitment. Starting Friday October 7 2016 – Not only will those who obtained the Ultimate Edition get early access, but any veteran players will receive a few in game exclusives:
- Exclusive Legacy Emblem
- Bonus Operations Pack
These items can be obtained by booting up any previous GOW game on any Live membership. Please note this will only work if you have save a file of one the older games prior the GOW4 release.
All in all I am excited to dive into the new game and save the world from the aliens once again. Gears of War 4 will be released on October 11 2016.
