In our continuing efforts to support Pokémon’s 20th anniversary, we would like to highlight Pokémon’s very own Sinnoh League Champion, Cynthia.

Cynthia (Shirona in Japanese) has been a very prominent character throughout the Pokémon franchise, both in game and on the anime TV series. Her significance has been highlighted time and time again with her constant reappearances. Cynthia is well known for her title as Pokémon Champion, but she is also known for being an ancient Pokémon/artifacts enthusiast. She is completely fascinated with studying the ruins of Sinnohs Legendary Pokémon, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. Cynthia also has a deep love for Pokémon, and has learned throughout the years that power isn’t the defining factor of a trainer.

Her grandmother is Professor Carolina who runs the Pokémon Research Lab in Celestic Town. This is where Cynthia’s curiosity and love for Pokémon were born. Throughout her adventures she has had to defend her title as Champion, accepting all challengers who’ve made it to the end of the elite four. Also, on several occasions she has had to defend her resolve and beliefs by going against Team Galactic.

It’s safe to say that Cynthia started at the bottom of the totem poll just like any other trainer, but as the years passed she has since made her way to the top and has maintained her stature. We also know that she must have defeated all gym leaders in the Sinnoh region including the elite four Champion before her in order to take the mantle.

She is a master in the ring and manipulates each move to her benefit. She has faced many opponents from beginner to gym leader level and has triumphed time and time again. Cynthia has an incredible arsenal of Pokémon at her disposal that she has built a special bond with, making them elite in comparison to others. Some of these are Garchomp, Lucario, and my personal favorite, Glaceon.

Why We Chose Her
Cynthia has an aura about her that demands attention and recognition. Just by watching her you can sense that she’s completely sure of herself and truly believes in her abilities to achieve greatness in life. Her unbreakable determination and steadfast resolve, together with the mentions above are the reasons we decided to spotlight her character.
Cynthia is extremely inspirational and has left quite an impression on many who have crossed paths with her, even Ash. She shows true love and appreciation for Pokémon and demonstrates honor in every battle. Her obsession with power subsided at a young age after learning that bonding with her Pokémon is more important. Cynthia is very humble and has been very supportive towards trainers who seek her for mentorship. She’s a true master, if there ever was one.

Before I send out my Pokémon, my heart always begins to race… Interesting… My Pokémon in their Poké Balls are radiating a happy feeling. Are you the reason? What are you?

When every life meets another life, something will be born

When summoning her Pokémon she likes to say “Battle Dance” before calling their name.
